PRIME Minister Keir Starmer is set to announce the £160m Investment Zone in Wrexham and Flintshire will be going live in 2025.

The PM is preparing to address the Welsh Labour conference in North Wales on Saturday (November 16), where he is set to confirm plans for the £160million Investment Zone in Wrexham and Flintshire.

This will be the first Welsh Labour Conference the Labour Leader has addressed as Prime Minister, following his party’s victory in July.

Ahead of the conference, Starmer visited Airbus in Broughton on Friday (November 15) following the news that the government are set to pump £975 million into the aerospace sector over the next five years.

Committing to drive growth across North Wales, as a core part of his Labour Government’s central mission, the Prime Minister is set to confirm that plans for the new Investment Zone are being driven forward so business and communities across North Wales can start feeling the benefits next year.

The drive to create an Investment Zone for Wrexham and Flintshire was spearheaded by a new consortium who say it would help "leverage and secure" an additional £1.7billion of investment and help create thousands of new jobs.

The group includes Moneypenny, JCB, Airbus, Net World Sports, Theatr Clwyd, North Wales Business Council, Wrexham and Flintshire councils, Wrexham University and AMRC Cymru, and is chaired by Joanna Swash, chair and Group CEO of Wrexham-based outsourced communications provider Moneypenny.

Initial plans were put forward in September of last year, before gaining the backing of Welsh Government in November 2023.

On Saturday, Starmer is set to finalise the plans and reveal the next steps ahead of a potential start in 2025.

At the conference, Starmer is set to acknowledge the huge responsibility the UK Labour Government now has to deliver for communities across Wales.

The UK Labour Leader also plans to speak of his pride in working closely with the 3 Welsh Labour women now leading Wales forwards into the future alongside his UK Labour Government: First Minister Eluned Morgan, Secretary of State for Wales Jo Stevens, and Welsh Labour Deputy Leader, Carolyn Harris.
