A MOTHER of two has been spared jail after smuggling a "significant amount" of class A drugs into HMP Berwyn in Wrexham.
Nicola Gubb, 48, visited the Wrexham prison on June 17, 2022 with almost 40g of ketamine and more than 20g of cannabis on her person.
Gubb, of Birkin Road, Southdene, Kirkby, Merseyside was handed a nine months suspended sentence, suspended for 12 months at Mold Crown Court today (November 14), having previously pleaded guilty to the charge.
Prosecutor Tom Mcloughlin told the court that on June 17, 2022, Ms Gubb travelled from her home in Liverpool to HMP Berwyn to visit Liam Mooney, 34.
She "evaded" being detected when entering the prison, whilst inside, she began to kiss Mr Mooney as she moved items from her jacket towards his groin, which was spotted by guards.
A search was later conducted and a "significant" amount of class A drugs, were found on Mr Mooney, leading to his and Ms Gubb's arrest.
The court heard that the quantity of drugs seized was valued up to five times as much in prison, with the estimated value somewhere between £1,000 and £10,000.

Defending Gubb, who had one previous conviction, for 20 offences, Joshua Gorst, said that she had been "bullied" by an organised crime group.
Mr Gorst added that the defendant suffered from panic attacks and "finds it difficult to leave the house".
Judge Rhys Rowlands acknowledged the fact that Ms Gubb was a mother-of-two, she'd had a "difficult life" and that she was "not considered suitable" for a community order.
The judge handed down a nine month suspended sentence, suspended for 12 months, plus 20 days of rehabilitation activity. Ms Gubb was also ordered to pay £178.
Mr Mooney's case is set to be heard at a later date.
