A HOST of Christmas events are taking place in Wrexham this weekend, as the countdown to the festive season begins.
Wrexham Council say they are pleased to be working with Fair Events Management, Nightingale House Hospice, Eagles Meadow and Heart Radio to mark the start of the Christmas season.
On Saturday, November 16, there will be plenty of stuff going on to help get you in the festive spirit, including:
Festive Fun Day on Queen’s Square
Starting at 12pm there is a range of festive fun going on, with delicious food stalls, entertainment and holiday activities for all ages.
Fair Events, the team behind Wrexham Feast and Wrexham's night market, will be providing rides and game stalls, a selection of street food (including vegan options), with traders from Wrexham Artisan Market offering:
- Gifts
- Cakes and treats
- Homeware
- Handmade Items
Lantern Decorating Workshops and Nightingale House Hospice Lantern Parade
You can register your child for just £6 (accompanying adults go free) through Nightingale House Hospice's website and receive a customisable paper lantern and battery light.
Once registered, you'll be able to collect and decorate your lantern at Lantern Making Workshops in Chapter Court (7-9 Queen Street, LL11 1AP) on Saturday, November 16 from 12.30pm to 3.30pm
At 4.30pm on Saturday, the Lantern and Light Parade will begin, starting on Queens Square and finishing at Eagles Meadow.
Wrexham light switch on event – Eagles Meadow Shopping Centre
The final festive activity will be the Christmas lights switch on at Eagles Meadow.
Heart Radio North Wales presenter Oli will be hosting the staged finale, with a variety of live music and entertainment. Rebecca Royal and Urban Fusion (dance) will perform from 4pm until 5pm.
Then from 5pm until 7pm there will be performances from the likes of Ben Ofoedu (Phats & Small), Dene Michael (of Black Lace), Kevin Davy White, Passmore and Lois, whilst waiting for the main event.
Hundreds turned out for the event last year and the council are hoping for more of the same this time around.

Cllr Nigel Williams, lead member for Economy, Business and Tourism, said: “This fun filled annual event will kick off Wrexham’s Christmas festivities with our new four day Victorian Christmas market and refurbished Victorian markets also opening at the end of the month.
“The event will have offerings for all ages with rides, stalls, food and drink and plenty of family friendly entertainment.
“This will also be a great opportunity to support our local city centre businesses.
“I’m really pleased we are again working with Nightingale house hospice to help raise much needed funds for them and I urge families to come along to the lantern making workshops to support, then join the parade to make it more magical.”
