"MITIGATION" measures will be in place in a Wrexham community for anticipated increased traffic flows due to nightly closures of an A483 stretch.

The A483 Newbridge bypass will be closed overnight from November 11 until November 15.

The reason for the carriageway closure is to allow Traffic Wales to undertake inspection of the Dee viaduct and conduct general maintenance work.

The road will closed in both directions from 9pm until 6am each night - with motorists facing a 14-mile diversion via the A5 and A539 through Llangollen due to the ongoing closure of Newbridge Road.

Past closures of the Newbridge bypass have caused traffic "chaos" in Llangollen and its surrounding areas - with the town becoming gridlocked.

Llangollen Rural County Councillor Rondo Roberts has said "mitigation" measures will be in place to help some areas cope with the increased traffic.

He said: "It's not ideal, but we have mitigation in place. There will gatemen positioned on the B5434 Gate Road to stop HGVs entering Trevor by following their satnavs. There will be access for residents only.

"And on Bont Bridge, where vehicles are required to give way to any oncoming vehicle already on the bridge, there will be traffic management. This will be to prevent vehicles waiting ages for others coming in the other direction to cross the bridge - which can cause chaos.

"It's just a way to manage an awkward situation until the Newbridge Road landslip is repaired. Everything is on track with that and we're hopeful the work will be completed by May next year."

He added: "The reason it's a four-nightly closure is that Traffic Wales is doing the bridge inspection and the general maintenance work all in one go. Hopefully that means there won't be other planned closures for the foreseeable."
