THE OWNER of a popular food business in Wrexham that is closing down has revealed why it is set to do so.

Earlier this week, The Leader reported that The Wing King had announced that it was time to say goodbye to Wrexham.

The business has become a hit with residents since it was established in August 2022.

Earlier this year, it moved into the Italian business Gusto d'Italia's former site in Ty Pawb.

Prior to starting The Wing King business, owner Andrew Boycott was a chef for 23 years at various establishments in the Chester area.

Now, he has announced that he is set to return to Chester to take over the Rake and Pikel at Huntington.

Andrew put out a statement on The Wing King page to end any speculation from people over why he decided to close the business down.

He said: "First of all thanks for all the love, much appreciated. Clear up a few myths, no it's not because we failed, no it's not because of the council (they in fact have been helpful), this is purely a decision off my own back!"

He added: "So starting soon I'm taking the reigns at a pub in Chester, The Rake & Pikel. We will have a traditional pub menu and a Wing king specials board. It's going be epic and hope to see you all there."

Andrew said that a closing date for The Wing King will be confirmed soon and added that the decision was made with a 'heavy heart'.

He thanked the Wrexham community, adding: "We are incredibly grateful to each and every one of you who walked through our doors, shared a meal, and became part of our family. Your support has meant the world to us."
