CONCERNS for the safety of children on an estate in Wrexham have been raised over a play area with no gates.

In the middle of The Oaks estate in Trevor there is a children's play area with no gates attached on either exit.

They were removed a few years ago following an incident which led to a child being injured after colliding with one of the gates.

Years later and they haven't been replaced and fears are increasing over the chances of a possible road traffic collision given its location near a road.

One parent who wished to remain anonymous, claims the area is a "death trap" and despite efforts to address the issue, has had no help from Llangollen Community Council.

The parent said: "I'm getting nowhere with the council, it feels like they're blatantly refusing to acknowledge any approaches.

"I initially got in touch in March, to try and put some safety gates in and there's still nothing there now in November.

"There's quite a few children on the estate, it's ridiculous. I've got a three and five-year-old, and they should be able to use the park with some peace of mind, but they can't.

"I’ve suggested different types of ideas to the council, I’m sure they can find something to address the issue. I can’t imagine many other parks without gates that open near to the road.

"There was almost an incident where a child was knocked over. It's a death trap.

"I’m not going to forget about it, I’m going to carry on until there are gates on the park."

Llangollen Community Council were approached for a comment.
