A GROUP of Flintshire volunteers are are looking to wrap up another season of support for a good cause.

For more than 20 years, Mac Ellis, from Buckley, has led a group to help the charity Teams4U, based in Llay, Wrexham.

Every year, through their annual Shoebox Appeal, Teams4U send thousands of shoeboxes filled with gifts and essentials to children who live in difficult circumstances. Destinations have included Ukraine, Romania, Belarus and Uganda.

In their first year, the Buckley group finished about 40 boxes, last year saw them fill and send 500.

Mac, 82, and a group of dedicated helpers, have again been collecting and wrapping hundreds of boxes, ready to fill.

He said: "People ask when do we start but we never really stop, and what keeps us going is there's a need for it.

"So many people support us all year round."

They are now accepting items for boxes or filled boxes over the next three weeks.

Anyone with donated contents or already boxes, can drop them off at the Buckley Cross Methodist Church, on Padeswood Road, from 10am-2pm, until Friday, November 22.

Boxes are filled for either a boy or girl, in one of three age ranges: three-five years, six to 11 years and 12 plus years. The older boys range is often the most difficult to fill boxes for.

As well as these, supporters, such as members of a knit and natter group that meet at the church, have made items including blankets and pencil cases.

Teams4U founder, Dave Cooke, will attend a service at the church on Sunday, November 24, at 10.30am. After the service he will collect all the boxes, and take them to the unit on Llay Industrial Estate, ready to be distributed.
