A "TOUCHING" display has gone up in a church in Wrexham ahead of Remembrance Day.

The Royal British Legion (RBL) branch in Overton on Dee has created a new homage to the fallen in St Mary the Virgin Church in the village.

Over the last few years, the original display had been crafted with knitted poppies created during the pandemic, which are still used, including a creation using the purple poppy for all animals during war time, which were created by talented local artist, June Mclaughlin.

This year the RBL wished to be involved and local photographer Richard Jones, kindly provided a photograph of a poppy field he had taken in the past.

A dress of poppies was also put together by the village Knit 'n' Knatter group to acknowledge the sacrifice of the women who lost their loved ones during the War.

The display has gone up and will run until November 15, with members of the public encouraged to go and view it.

A spokesperson said: "This was a joint effort by the Royal British Legion branch members and you can see a lot of work has gone into the new display.

"We continue to use as many of the poppies that were made by local knitting ladies during the pandemic.

"Each year, our village honours the sacrifice of our fallen just like all other villages, towns and cities all over the UK and we invite anyone from the public to come along and view our exhibit.

"It is haunting and deeply touching display and hope they feel as we do, once they see it."
