IT WAS difficult to find a seat upon my visit to the Ham Bone Food Hall in Llandudno, as I arrived to a queue of hungry customers snaking out of the entrance.
It wasn’t hard to see why this was the case, though, as once I eventually did, it proved well worth the wait!
Taking refuge from the sudden downpour, I initially opted for the fish finger sandwich, only to be told that – perhaps unsurprisingly – they were all out of fish. Good job, then, that their menu offers such choice and variety.
There are breakfast baps, filled rolls, a “hot meat of the day”, wraps, salad boxes, fresh fish and chips, paninis, hot drinks and more to mull over, while current specials include deep fried battered chicken breast chunks served in a box with mixed salad and coleslaw and a sweet chilli drizzle.
You can also sample its falafel flatbreads or its “street food special” – Greek-style rice served with fillet steak or salt and pepper chicken, finished with a mint yoghurt drizzle. If you weren’t spoilt for choice already, you could also indulge yourself in a scotch egg, pork pie, sausage roll, sirloin steak, fish strips or freshly cooked pizza.
As for me, I opted for a lighter bite – the award-winning Italian Parmalat ham panini, complete with buffalo mozzarella and sun blush tomatoes, along with a freshly made sausage roll.
You can inside or outside, or take away at Ham Bone. I take my seat in the corner, watch families enjoy half-term lunches with their children come and go, and am served sharply.

Staff are friendly and helpful throughout, providing swift table service and asking if there’s anything extra you’d like.
The lunch itself is just what the doctor ordered to beat the drizzly Monday blues – the sausage roll is particularly moreish, while the panini is hot and tangy, with the tomatoes adding an extra layer of flavour. It goes down a treat – almost as quickly as the customers who come and go.
The Ham Bone Food Hall, at 3 Lloyd Street, Llandudno, is open six days a week, 8am-5pm (Fridays: 9am-5pm).
