As my search for the best cooked breakfast in Flintshire continues, I've discovered what might be the best value start to the day.

Sunrise Breakfasts in Connah's Quay has gone for the breakfast niche, opening between 9am and 1.30pm on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and between 9.30am and 1.30pm on Sundays.

Initially, I ordered a home delivery of what was, it turns out, accurately called the Big Boy Breakfast.

A weighty bag full of food promptly arrives and, in truth it could happily satisfy two or even three adults.

(Image: Matt Warner) The whopping ingredient list includes 4 x pork sausages, 4 x bacon, 2 x eggs, 2 x black puddings, tomatoes, mushrooms, beans, 2 x hash browns, and 2 x toast with butter.

For £11 in the shop (the online cost from delivery services will be higher) this is undoubtedly the best value breakfast around.

Once unpacked, I struggled to get it all on one plate.

Let's face it, if they threw in a few more rounds of toast, they'd have to give you a T-shirt for finishing it.

(Image: Matt Warner) Everything was well-cooked, especially the sausages, and if you want a no nonsense cooked breakfast with no bells and whistles then it is hard to fault it.

Some items, like toast, don't travel well, but due to the efficiency of the delivery this wasn't a problem.

(Image: Matt Warner) There are other options too, such as the American Breakfast with pancakes and syrup.

There is no vegetarian breakfast listed, but the build your own breakfast option would allow one to be created. The same goes for those on low carb or other diets.

ROOM FOR MORE:

Enticed by the delivery, I wanted to visit the Sunrise Breakfast cafe.

(Image: Matt Warner) So on a Sunday morning, I went to the corner unit on the Red Hall Precinct in Connah's Quay to see, and taste it for myself.

I had dinner plans so didn't want to tackle another Big Boy, instead asking for the American Breakfast.

(Image: Matt Warner) Unfortunately, they did not have all the ingredients to make it, so I want for the Classic Breakfast which is a slimmed down version of the Big Boy.

(Image: Matt Warner) Again, the food was very good, and the atmosphere was very pleasant.

There was a mix of customers, and many were treated like old friends and previously held conversations were resumed.

(Image: Matt Warner) A pair of workers bedecked in hi-vis were tempted by the Big Boy, but thought it might sit a bit heavy with a day of work ahead of them.

Several delivery orders were picked up, proving the cafe's popularity, although one customer said it was the first time he had noticed Sunrise Breakfasts - and he lived in the next street.

One slight negative is that there were no non-dairy options for the hot drinks, but small issues like this, and menu items being unavailable, might be fixed as the business grows.

And judging by its popularity, and plans in the works to open a second location, that won't be long.
