"If you have any information in relation to this or believe you may have witnessed something relevant, please let us know. We will have increased patrols in the area over the coming days."

In addition, the force have issued a list of ideas for residents to consider:

  • Upgraded Locks: install high quality padlocks or mortise locks. Choose weatherproof models for outdoor use and avoid simple padlocks which can easily be broken
  • Secure hinges: make sure shed doors have strong, concealed hinges. If hinges are exposed replaced standard screws with security screws to prevent removal.
  • Add shed bars: install a metal bar across the inside of the door for extra reinforcement.
  • Secure windows: if sheds have windows reinforce them with bars or mesh or cover them to prevent thieves from seeing what’s inside.
  • Install lighting and alarms
  • Secure the perimeter of your property with fencing, ensure gates are locked
  • Anchor valuables: chain larger items to secure anchors or ground bolts
