POLICE have issued a warning to members of the public regarding their behaviour at the Maelor Hospital following several incidents last week.

North Wales Police's Wrexham Town team revealed they had received a number of calls for service at the hospital last week, with individuals "causing issues" at the location.

There were seven incidents in total including ASB and a possible assault of a worker. A man was arrested by police for "causing nuisance on NHS premises", police confirmed.

Following the incidents, police have asked visitors to "show more respect" at the hospital and warned that more arrests will be made if the type of behaviour continues.

A spokesperson for North Wales Police said: "We have had a few calls for service at the hospital this week with a number of individuals causing issues at the location.

"Please show more respect, people only attend the hospital if they have to and can sometimes spend a significant amount of time waiting to be seen which can be frustrating.

"It’s even more frustrating when a small few show a lack of respect for other patients and staff.

"We are working hard with the hospital to address this matter, which resulted in an arrest yesterday. More arrests will follow if this behaviour continues."

The seven incidents at the Maelor Hospital last week, included:

  • Missing person/absconder from hospital
  • Absconder from hospital
  • Concern for Safety Incident (patient)
  • Possible Assault of Hospital Staff
  • Anti-social behaviour (visitor)
  • Concern for safety (Patient)
  • Man arrested for causing nuisance on NHS premises

Following the warning from the police, the health board have issued a plea to the public to respect staff and said there is "no excuse" for abuse towards hospital workers.

Ian Donnelly, Director of Operations for the East Integrated Health Community at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, said: “Our staff work incredibly hard to care for people who are receiving treatment in our hospital.

“There is simply no excuse for verbal or physical abuse against our hard-working staff, as well as upsetting other patients within the hospital who witness any abusive behaviour.”
