A DISPLAY created by students for Remembrance Day has been vandalised outside a Wrexham primary school.

Despite the efforts and dedication of the students at Ysgol Bro Alun in Gwersyllt, poppies to show love and respect for Remembrance Day (November 11) have been "ripped" away from the school gates.

Deputy Mayor and local Councillor for Gwersyllt East Ward, Tina Mannering attended Ysgol Bro Alun last week to join students and staff in their annual tradition of displaying poppies along the school gates.

"The children and teachers worked so hard making beautiful poppies to celebrate Remembrance Day and show their support and respect for the veterans fallen and still with us.

"It is unforgivable that someone could come along and tear down the art work. The display outside of the school gates, which should be a welcoming site, instead brought tears."

Helen Oldfield, headteacher at Ysgol Bro Alun said: "We are disappointed that the children’s contribution to the community’s acts of remembrance has been disrespected."
