WORK is continuing at Newbridge Road, as it nears four years since the road was closed.

The B5605 road was subject to a landslip in 2021 during Storm Christoph, and has remained closed ever since.

Its closure has proven a huge frustration for residents, and caused traffic "chaos" in Llangollen and surrounding areas when the A483 viaducts are closed during inclement weather.

£2.8m of Welsh Government funding was secured in April 2022, with hopes the road would be open towards the end of 2023.

A planning application was finally submitted in May by contractor Jones Bros, and some preparation work has already taken place at the site, including the clearance of vegetation and the diversion of BT cables.

Wrexham Council has given an estimated completion date of spring next year - despite concerns of funding.

Work finally started at the site last month, and Jones Bros have provided the latest update via the projects Facebook page.

A spokesperson said: "Works have begun on site for the Newbridge Landslip Remediation Scheme.

"The Project Team are currently carrying out soil nailing works. The combination of soil nails and rock fall netting will ensure that the slope is stable and safe in order for the permanent works to commence."

The start of the work was welcomed by Chirk councillor Terry Evans last month, who said: "We welcome the start of the work last week, and hope the council/company keep the public informed along the way as it’s been a difficult time for everyone locally.

"I wish the company good luck for the job in hand, and have every confidence it will be completed as soon as possible."
