Cadw, the Welsh Government's historic environment service, has announced a line-up of spooky Halloween-themed events in celebration of its 40th year.

The events, taking place in October and November, include Escape the Warlock’s Chamber, an escape room at Castell Conwy in which participants will try to break free of the medieval fortress as they place themselves in the shoes of the magician Maldwyn mab Diafol - 'whose empty prison cell remains a mystery even seven hundred and twenty years after his disappearance.'

Suitable for ages ten and above, Escape the Warlock’s Chamber is for teams of two to six players at a cost of £4 per player, and takes place from Monday, October 28 to Sunday, November 3.

Elizabethan town house Plas Mawr will invite the brave to enter its walls after dark this Halloween night (October 31), from 4.30pm to 6pm and from 6.15pm to 7.45pm.

Inside, participants will be treated to a Halloween tour complete with ghost stories.

A Spooktacular Children's Trail will come to Denbigh Castle on the weekend of October 26 and October 27, with participants invited to don their most creative costume for a day of family fun and 'creepy crafts.'

Other events include Spooky Tales and Trails at Castell Rhuddlan on Halloween (October 31) from 11am to 3pm; and Spooky Halloween at Beaumaris Castle on the weekend of October 26 and 27, from 10am to 5pm.

Cadw membership offers free event entry and unlimited access to more than 130 historic places across Wales, offering a great way to explore Wales’ rich heritage.

Children also go free with any adult membership.
