The Millstone, Penyffordd
After all the horrendous rain it was wonderful to have a Saturday that was bright and sunny.
So keen to take advantage of a beautiful day we decided to have a 'walk with a purpose'.
That purpose was lunch at the Millstone in Penyffordd.
The Millstone is an independent, family-owned bar and restaurant nestled in the heart of the village.
Its prides itself on its menu focussing on modern, seasonal dishes using only the freshest ingredients and local produce.
After a good walk we were more than ready for a spot of lunch and to quench our thirst.
There is a lunch menu served from 12-5pm daily and a main menu served from 12-9pm to choose from.
I opted for the lunch menu which offers plenty of sandwich options, flatbreads and salads.
I choose the fish goujon sandwich on a ciabatta with tartar sauce and lettuce while my partner went for the chicken club sandwich with smoked bacon, tomato, lettuce and mayonnaise.
We decided to share a portion of hand cut chips
On the main menu there are sharing boards and plenty of choice from steak, burgers, duck and lamb.
I was was more than happy with my choice. The bread was not too 'claggy' and the fish perfectly cooked covered in a light crispy batter.
The chips were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
My partner said his club sandwich was one of the best he had ever had. High praise indeed. He too said the bread was delicious, chicken moist and bacon perfectly crispy.
To drink I tried a pint of the Spitting Feathers while my partner opted for the Cruzcampo.
We arrived at the Millstone not long after 12noon but by the time we left it had filled up nicely with groups and couples. I have to admit I did sneak a look at a fellow diner's plate and was pretty envious of her lamb rump with dauphinoise potatoes. It looked amazing and smelt gorgeous too.
We would highly recommend the Millstone.
It's decor is bright and inviting and the standard of food excellent. It has an attractive looking outdoor area which would be ideal for families in the summer months.
It was well worth the walk and we will be back!
