Another yellow weather warning has been issued for North Wales with strong winds set to cause disruptions over the weekend and into next week.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning due to strong winds which will be in place in Anglesey, Conwy and Gwynedd from 3am on Sunday (October 20) until 12pm on Monday (October 21).

Winds could reach speeds of up to 80mph in some parts of the UK which could result in travel disruptions, damage to buildings, power cuts and pose a danger to life.

What to expect from the yellow weather warning in North Wales

The Met Office said the latest yellow weather warning was issued across parts of North Wales due to strong winds which could cause disruptions.

The strong winds associated with the yellow weather warning are also set to cause:

  • Longer travel times or cancellations as road, rail, air and ferry services are affected
  • Damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs
  • Injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties
  • Power cuts and disruptions to other services such as mobile phone coverage
  • Injuries and danger to life from flying debris
  • Road and bridge closures

A Met Office spokesperson added: "A windy period is expected across the whole of the UK on Sunday and into Monday, but across parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland, Northwest England and North West Wales there is an increased chance of some disruption.

"Initially a period of strong south to southeasterly winds will likely develop through Sunday morning, with gusts of 50-60 mph possible in some inland areas, especially Northern Ireland and western Scotland, and perhaps up to 60-70 mph along exposed coasts and hills.

"Winds will then likely turn southwesterly, with a period of especially strong winds possible during Sunday afternoon and evening in western Scotland where gusts could potentially reach 70-80 mph in exposed areas, and more generally 55-65 mph in other parts of the warning area.

"These strong winds in conjunction with high spring tides may cause some disruption."

How to prepare for the yellow weather warning in North Wales

The Met Office has issued advice on how to prepare for the yellow weather warning and the risks it poses.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "Prepare to protect your property and people from injury. Check for loose items outside your home and plan how you could secure them. Items include; bins, garden furniture, trampolines, tents, sheds, and fences.

"Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary.

"People cope better with power cuts when they have prepared for them in advance. It’s easy to do; consider gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items.

"If you are on the coast, stay safe during stormy weather by being aware of large waves. Even from the shore large breaking waves can sweep you off your feet and out to sea.
