A FOOTBALLER born and raised in the Wrexham area has been praised for a kind gesture he made for Wales fans during one of their European away days.

Neco Williams is from the village of Cefn Mawr and is a former pupil of Ysgol Rhiwabon.

Having previously played for Liverpool and then on loan at Fulham, the full-back now plays for fellow Premier League side Nottingham Forest.

Williams, 23, has also become a key component within Wales' senior men's team over the past few years, earning 42 caps so far.

He played both of Wales' matches during this month's UEFA Nations League clashes away in Iceland (2-2) and at home to Montenegro (1-0 win).

And, while out in Iceland, he made a kind gesture that Wales fans will likely never forget.

While at the airport in Reykjavik, Williams bought a drink for fans who were also there.

X (formerly Twitter) user Marc Rees posted a picture of him with the Wales star and said: "I just want to say what a super touch it was for @necowilliams01 buying us a drink in Reykjavik airport yesterday, superb touch and much appreciated."

And it was a game to remember for Williams too as he was selected as Man of the Match for his performance in the 2-2 draw with Iceland on Friday, October 11.
