FLINTSHIRE Council says it is working to support residents amid the possibility of a social services provision having to cut transport facilities.

The local authority confirmed that one of the providers of day services in the county has determined that without additional funding, they would be unable to continue to provide transport to and from their site.

As a result, many users of the day service, who are unable to provide their own transport could lose access to the facility.

This has led to concerns being raised about the safety of residents with special needs that make use of the facilities.

One person, who wanted to remain anonymous, told the Leader that the day service at the Clock Tower in Shotton were set to be affected.

They said: "It's a potential dangerous situation with people with special needs being left alone for large parts of the day.

"People are vulnerable and there are worries over safety. Many of those affected are very distressed and concerned about their future welfare as they’ve had this care for a long time."

The council has confirmed it is working with those affected and their families to determine other methods of transport to the site.

"We provide and commission a range of day services for people with learning disability within a clear financial framework.

"One of the Providers of day services has determined that, without additional funding, they are unable to continue to provide transport to and from their day services as part of their additional service offer.

"Flintshire County Council has an agreed Transport Policy which sets our eligibility criteria for transport provision and support.
