A NEW community hub in Wrexham is preparing to open following years of work.

Plans to open Hwb Yr Orsedd, in Rossett have been ongoing since 2018. The new hub is located at the site of the former toilets block in the village.

The public conveniences were shut in 2017 after they were repeatedly targeted by vandals and a planning application was put in to transform the site on The Green.

After being granted planning permission and securing Shared Prosperity funding, work began in December last year to redevelop the site.

On Tuesday (October 15) an event was held at the hub, ahead of it's full opening next week (October 23).

The hub, which boasts an on-site cafe, will be open seven days a week and can be used for private hire as well as for the use of the community.

Chris Guest, Chair of Hwb Yr Orsedd Ltd Board, said: "Just amazing, it's quite emotional really as we have put a lot of time and effort into it.

"The most important thing for us has been the support we've had from the community, everyone is saying they can't wait for it to open and that it will be an asset for the community.

"That's what we've tried to achieve, it's not about the café or the building, it's somewhere where the community can just walk in any time, don't have to buy anything, but we've got all sorts planned.

"We've all been involved for that reason, it isn't a personal thing, even though we are proud, it's been about delivering something for the community.

"The hub will be open seven days a week, but Tuesday's and Thursday's will be for bookings. We've already got enquiries from different groups to hire the space out which is pleasing.

"But the café will be open every day except Tuesday and Thursday from 9am until 4pm."
