A MAN who headbutted and kicked police officers in Wrexham has been sentenced.
Lee Spencer, of Walton Road in Liverpool, appeared before Mold Crown Court for sentencing on Tuesday, October 15.
The 42-year-old previously pleaded guilty to two counts of assaulting an emergency worker (two police officers) at a Plea and Trial Preparation Hearing held earlier this year.
Catherine Elvin, prosecuting, said that the offences took place on March 16.
On that day, North Wales Police officers attended Llwyn Eglwys in Hope in Wrexham, where a fight had broken out.
Officers identified Spencer at the scene and he was said to be 'highly intoxicated'.
When they attempted to apprehend him, the defendant became 'aggressive', the court heard.
Spencer 'repeatedly swore' at officers even after being warned not to and he was arrested.
During attempts to arrest him, he resisted and 'continued to swear'.
Spencer then kicked one officer in the leg before headbutting another to the face resulting in the latter suffering 'minor injuries' to the forehead at the scene.
The prosecution added that the defendant had also been the subject of a suspended sentence at the time of the offending for unrelated matters.
They added that Spencer had 22 convictions for 45 offences, largely for violence.
That included a previous instance of assaulting emergency workers back in March 2023.
Dafydd Roberts, defending, said that Spencer was someone who was now a 'wholly changed man from the one who committed these offences'.
He added that the defendant has since 'worked hard to address his behaviours' and is 'ashamed of how he's behaved'.

Sentencing Spencer, Judge Rhys Rowlands said: "You were reverting to previous behaviour by being difficult and aggressive towards police officers."
The judge added: "However, I am persuaded, exceptionally and for the last time, to draw back from an immediate custodial sentence in this case."
Spencer was handed a six-month term for the first assault (kick) and nine months for the second assault (headbutt), to run concurrently. That was suspended for a period of 12 months.
He was also placed under curfew between the hours of 9pm and 6am for a period of three months.
Judge Rowlands added: "Clearly, drink is at the root of your offending down the years.'"
