A NEW Comic Con event in Wrexham got off to a barnstorming start.
The event, organised by 'United Federation of Geeks', was held at Coleg Cambria's Yale campus on Saturday (October 12).
It is totally separate to the Wales Comic Con events which are at the Wrexham University campus.
Some of the etertainment on the day included singing sensation Jennah performing songs from the movies and big theatre shows, live wrestling performances by Basix Wrestling and magic shows. Wrexham mayor, cllr Beryl Blackmore, was on hand to officially open the event.
Hundreds of attendees donned their cosplay outfits for the event - and Darth Vadar and the Empire's troops were popular with people wanting photos.
The event also featured a cosplay parade and even a masquerade ball. Among the famous faces in attendance were Mike Quinn, Brian Muir (the creator of Darth Vader's helmet and armour), Caroline Munro, Star Wars star Clem So, and Tony Slattery.
Despite being a completely new event, attendees and stall traders were hugely impressed.
Kat Croker, a stallholder from Wirral who runs KC's Curiosity Box, said: "I've been so impressed with the event, it's been absolutely brilliant. You never quite know what to expect with first-time events, but this has been amazing. A big well done to the organisers for putting on such a fabulous event."
And £3 of each ticket sold will be donated towards supporting three charities; the Wrexham Autism Society, Maggie's Helpers and Godiva first responders.
Event co-organiser, John Griffiths, said: "We think it's gone really well. Obviously there's apprehensions as with any convention, but as it was coming together and taking shape we were pleased. The venue has been amazing, and a massive thanks to Coleg Cambria.
"The actors have come from all over the UK to be here. And the event has just gone from strength to strength, there's a really good community vibe and we're getting amazing feedback."
Robin Wordingham, who also helped organise the event, said: "We can’t thank the community of Wrexham for all their amazing support with our first Wrexham Comic Con. And the staff at the venue too who all helped make things happen at the beautiful venue at the heart of Wrexham.
"We were absolutely delighted to have the support of the mayor of Wrexham, who conducted our official opening. And she then stayed on to meet all of our guests in person to welcome them to Wrexham.
"The morning after the big day and our social media is buzzing with so much positive energy and feedback we are overjoyed that people had such a wonderful time at the event. We aim to improve each time and keep the event as inclusive as possible so that every can come and enjoy themselves."
