A FUNDRAISER has been launched for a Wrexham woman who had an emergency C-section abroad as her baby arrived 12 weeks early.
Tesni Griffiths, aged 27, was visiting her partner in Turkey when she went into labour on September 26 at just 26 weeks. Baby Aras was born a day later - weighing 2lb 2oz.
Tesni explained: "I woke the Friday with mild cramps, I went to the hospital and they told my partner I was 3cm dilated and I would need to travel to a different hospital two and a half hours away to give birth as they didn't have the right medical equipment for me to give birth in Fethiye Hospital.
"So I got rushed to Mugla hospital in an ambulance. When I arrived I tried to give birth naturally but my baby's heart rate suddenly dropped so I had to be rushed for an emergency c-ection.
"I woke up around 6pm, Aras was born with a tiny hole in his heart and with respiratory problems we can only see him on a Monday and Thursday for 30 minutes."
The Lia's Wings charity is flying Tesni and baby Aras home in six weeks time, but while he remains hospital in Turkey the cost is close to £1,000 a week for his care.
Tesni said: "We will struggle to pay that as the c-section and ambulance was just over £2000 so we are trying to raise funds to go towards his hospital care and transport to the hospital - a five hour journey each day.
"Any help is really appreciated and we are trying our best to get baby Aras back to the UK."
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help raise funds, and can be accessed viaRegarding baby Aras' current condition, Tesni said: "He stopped feeding for two days but now he is feeding. He has a small hole in his heart but other than that he is doing well.
"He is on oxygen but he is not ventilated.
"It definitely has been a really scary experience. Even now I'm still scared. My last birth, Alfie, was eight years ago and he was 10 weeks early but it wasn't as hard as this birth."
