A free school uniform shop has been launched to help families in need.

Cefn Community Council, with support from Tesco Cefn Mawr and community champion David Roden, has set up the initiative to help families during the back-to-school season.

The shop, located at The George Edwards Hall, will be open every Tuesday from 9am to 10am and Thursday from 1pm to 2pm.

Chairman Phillip Vaughan said: "We are incredibly fortunate to have the support of Tesco Cefn Mawr and David Roden.

"Their generosity has allowed us to help families in need, ensuring that no child goes without a uniform.

"This is a true testament to the strength of our community, and we’re honoured to play a part in it."

The shop will provide a range of clothing for boys and girls, including shirts, skirts, trousers and pinafores, in various sizes.

However, stocks are limited, so residents are encouraged to visit the shop as soon as possible.

Councillor Gaynor Wright, who has played a key role in organising the initiative, said: "I am incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved with the Free School Uniform Shop.

"This is more than just about uniforms—it’s about lifting a burden for families and showing that our community stands together to support each other.

"It’s been heartening to see the kindness and generosity of local people and businesses."

The shop will be closed during half-term but will be open on the Friday of that week, ensuring ongoing support for families as the school year progresses.

For more information, residents can visit the George Edwards Hall during shop hours or follow Cefn Community Council’s updates on social media.

The available uniforms include girls' pinafores in sizes 5-6, 6-7, 7-8, 8-9, 9-10, and 10-11, girls' school shirts in sizes 5-6, 6-7, 7-8, 8-9, 9-10, and 11-12, and boys' shirts in sizes 4-5, 5-6, 6-7, 8-9, 14-15, and 15-16.

Boys' trousers are available in sizes 3-4, 4-5, 5-6, 8-9, 10-11, 11-12, and 13-14.

The council has urged families to visit soon while supplies last.

The initiative is part of a wider effort by Cefn Community Council, in partnership with Councillor Gaynor Wright, to support local families.

The council has expressed its gratitude to Tesco Cefn Mawr and community champion David Roden for their generous uniform donation.

The council has also thanked the local community for their support and generosity.
