AURA Leisure has issued a message to users of its services and facilities ahead of passing the running of them over to Flintshire Council.

Aura’s contract for managing leisure centres, libraries, heritage services, play areas and other community services will end on October 31.

From November 1, these facilities and services will be managed by a Local Authority Trading Company (LATC) established by Flintshire County Council. The LATC will be wholly owned by the Council.

It comes as Aura Leisure and Libraries Limited and Flintshire Council have failed to reach a new long-term funding agreement.

Council officials said they were "disappointed" after a proposed new deal offered to the employee-owned company during the summer was rejected.

However, Aura representatives said it contained stipulations they could not legally agree to.

On Friday (October 11), Aura issued a further statement. A spokesperson said: "For customers who have booked and paid for services post-October, the Council has confirmed that the LATC will fulfil all future bookings. However, we wish to make clear that bookings made with Aura prior to 31 October will not be delivered by Aura from November onwards.

"Aura wishes to say ‘thank you’ for the loyalty and support of all its customers over the past seven years.

"Aura is a charitable, not-for-profit organisation owned by its employees. It will continue to exist post-October (though not delivering services) to complete the winding up process.
