STAFF at Nightingale House Hospice are marking Hospice Care Week 2024 with a series of activities and awareness initiatives centred around the theme of ‘Retail’.
Running from October 7 to 13, this year’s campaign focuses on the crucial role the hospice’s retail shops play in funding patient services and highlights the connection between community support and compassionate care.
Throughout the week, the hospice has been raising awareness of how every purchase, donation, and act of support for its retail outlets directly contributes to the care provided for patients living with life-limiting illnesses.
The hospice runs several shops in Wrexham, Borras, Buckley, Mold, Whitchurch and Oswestry, as well as its Re-Use Store and eBay shop, offering the community sustainable, affordable shopping options while raising essential funds for hospice care.
Katie Roberts, head of retail at Nightingale House said: “At the heart of this week’s campaign is the message that - your purchase goes much further than you think.
“A simple purchase from one of our hospice’s retail shops can fund critical services, from nursing care to wellbeing sessions, helping patients manage their symptoms and live with dignity. Each transaction in these shops directly supports Nightingale House in offering a range of services free of charge to patients and their families.”
She added: "Our retail shops are more than just places to find a bargain—they are lifelines for the hospice as well as our shoppers.
"The funds raised through these outlets go directly to supporting our patients, helping us provide compassionate care at a time when it’s needed most.

"Hospice Care Week is an opportunity for us to celebrate these shops, the staff and volunteers who run them and the role the community plays in supporting patient care at Nightingale House."
Samantha Evans, retail area manager, said: "It’s amazing to see how every donation, big or small, helps support the incredible work of Nightingale House.
“Just in Gift Aid alone this year, we have raised over £83,000 which is incredible for patient care at the hospice! And we still have a few months of the year left to go...
"Being part of the retail arm of Nightingale House is incredibly rewarding, knowing that every sale makes a difference in someone’s life."
