NEWFOUND friendships have been made as the Mayor of Buckley continues to strengthen connections in the community.
When residents from a Buckley care home were invited to attend Westwood Primary school's mini police graduation back in July, they met up with newly appointed Buckley Mayor, Councillor Emma Preece.
The residents and Cllr Preece hit it off straightaway and they have continued to build on their blossoming relationship.
Since being appointed, Cllr Preece has developed great contacts in Buckley who she has introduced to Marleyfield's Activities Co-ordinator Lyn Hulme. This has allowed the care home residents to make their own new local connections and become more involved in local community activities.
Cllr Preece said: "As Mayor of Buckley, I'm committed to fostering a strong relationship with all members of our community, including the residents of our local care homes.
"By working closely with the residents and staff, I aim to understand their unique needs and concerns, ensuring that they remain an integral part of our town’s future.
"This collaboration not only strengthens community bonds but also enhances the quality of care and well-being for the residents, allowing their voices to be heard and valued in shaping local initiatives. I'm excited to continue to grow this relationship further.”
On Friday, September 27 Marleyfield Care Home resident and former Bletchley Codebreaker Dorcas Jones celebrated her 101st birthday.
Cllr Preece joined the celebrations, and presented Dorcas with a beautiful flower bouquet before getting to know the residents.
Pupils from Westwood Primary also visited Dorcas with a card, and enjoyed playing games with other residents.

Two days later, Marleyfield residents were delighted to be invited by Cllr Preece to attend her civic service at Buckley Methodist church. Four residents were taken there by Taffs Taxis and they loved enjoying seeing familiar faces outside of the care home.
Cllr Preece and Rev Andrew Bradley ensured it was an engaging and interactive service. As an experienced ceramicist, Cllr Preece also included clay pottery moulding during the service, engaging residents who were able to take home their clay mouldings as a memento.
Lyn Hulme said Cllr Preece, Rev Bradley and Taffs Taxis had all made significant contributions giving Marleyfield Care Home residents a great experience to remember, and they could look forward to having more such engagements to help residents feel they’re still part of their wider community.
