RSPCA CYMRU has launched an appeal for information after a deceased cat was found with a shoelace tied around his neck in Deeside.

The shocking and upsetting discovery was made by a member of the public who found the deceased cat near Sandy Lane on Tuesday morning (October 8).

The cat’s body was taken to a vet and the RSPCA was called.

RSPCA Animal Rescue Officer Mel Froude said: “This is a very upsetting incident and we’d like to thank those who took this cat to the vets and who have already spoken to us about this.

"The body of the cat was found with a shoelace tightly around its neck. He’s a ginger cat, who hasn’t been neutered and looking at the condition of his teeth, was still quite young."

She added: “The vet who saw the body believed that this death was non- accidental and highlighted scuff marks and blood on his back paws and toes - which suggests suspicious circumstances as if the cat has been dragged along.

“This is really concerning and we are now reaching out to see if anyone can help us with our enquiries or who perhaps has first-hand information about this cat. If you can help please do get in touch by calling 0300 123 8018 and can quote 1367616.”

The cat wasn’t microchipped which has meant an owner has not yet been found. However, he could have also been a stray.

Mel added: “He was found near the Sandy Lane area, however, he could have made his own way there beforehand and potentially the incident could have happened further away.

“As this death is suspicious we would like to speak to anyone who may have seen anything or knows who this poor cat may belong to.”
