A COUPLE who tied the knot in Wrexham ended up having an unexpected, but nevertheless 'memorable', photoshoot with Reds fans at the STok Cae Ras.

Sian and Matthew Whelan got married at St Dunawd's church in Bangor-on-Dee on Saturday (October 5).

The couple, who are from Wrexham, have been together for 20 years, having first met when they were working together.

After the wedding, the new Mr and Mrs Whelan enjoyed a party at the Maesgwyn Hall, which is opposite Wrexham AFC's home ground.

Sian says it was a 'really small ceremony with close friends and family with a big happily ever after party'.

However, the party was somewhat extended later that afternoon when the couple and their fellow party members joined Wrexham AFC fans after the final whistle blew and the Reds beat Northampton 4-1.

Sian added: "We had to make some adjustments to our day as when booking the Maesgwyn at the start of the year we didn't know if the football would be on, on the day.

"Having arranged with Rich Watkin (owner/director) some tweaks were made really close to the day, we decided we should have some memorable photos to remember the stress.

"The photographer Beth Hall (Raw Focus North West), loved the idea of having photos with the fans so we decided to go out to the Racecourse at the final whistle."

Sian said: "We are Wrexham fans and take our son Osian to as many games as we can. Our maid of honour Emma Davies goes to every game and although gutted she couldn't attend the match on Saturday, she was more than happy to go up to the Racecourse with us and join in the celebrations.

"We did approach the police to check that we wouldn't be causing an issue. The atmosphere with Wrexham winning was amazing and the fans joined in, taking some very memorable photos."
