A PEER SUPPORT group for men in Wrexham has got off to a 'great start' at its new home this week.

Last week, the Leader reported that Andy's Man Club would be moving from the departing Yellow and Blue Hub at Eagles Meadow.

The charity confirmed that its weekly free-to-attend Monday sessions will now be held from within the cafe space at the Rebuild With Hope site, which is also at Eagles Meadow.

The group has issued a statement to say that sessions got off to a 'great start' on Monday evening (October 7).

A total of 39 men attended their first session at their new home, with seven of those being first-time attendees.

The Andy's Man Club Wrexham team said: "Off to a great start at our new venue this evening. 39 men attended Andy's Man Club Wrexham, with seven gentlemen joining us for the first time.

"Shares of highs and lows tonight, some guys really struggling with their demons. Similar situations and stories with many of us thankful that someone else knows how it feels.

"A huge thank you to the partner of one of our facilitators, she made us a cake to commemorate our new venue and a cracking cake it was.

"Andy's Man Club is all about helping guys through their storms, so that they find a golden sky at the end. If you know a guy who is struggling, tell them about us and what we do. Tell them they're not alone. Tell them its okay to talk!

"Take it easy and have the best week you can. Stay sunny Wrexham."

Andy's Man Club launched its first north Wales branch in Wrexham in April 2022, before following that up with a Deeside group earlier this year.

On a national scale, Andy's Man Club was founded in the aftermath of the suicide of Andy Roberts, a young man from the north east, by his brother-in-law and former rugby star Luke Amber and his mother, Elaine.

The aim of the UK charitable organisation is to get men to open up so that it never reaches the point where they consider taking their own life. It provides group based and one-on-one support.

Starting seven years ago in Halifax, the first group was attended by nine men.

Luke and Elaine were determined to grow the organisation and reach 10 groups in 10 years. Now, over 180 groups later, almost 4,500 men attend every single week.
