A WREXHAM community association, with the support of Tesco, is proud to announce the launch of the Cefn Soup Kitchen (CSK).

This vital initiative, spearheaded by Tesco’s commitment to helping local communities, is aimed at supporting those affected by the reduction in Winter Fuel Payments.

The Cefn, Rhosymedre & Newbridge Community Association (CRNCA), led by chair Krissy Morrison has played a key role in organising and bringing this project to life.

Starting every Tuesday, 12pm until 3pm at The Canteen in Cefn Mawr Activity Centre, the soup kitchen will provide not only a warm meal but also a welcoming space where people can connect, find comfort, and be part of the community during the tough winter months.

David Roden, Tesco’s Community Champion at the Cefn Mawr store, said: “It’s been an absolute pleasure to see our vision come to fruition. The Cefn Soup Kitchen is about much more than just food - it’s about offering people a place to come together, feel safe, and be supported during the winter months.”

This initiative has also received valuable support from Cefn Community Council, which has been instrumental in backing community-focused efforts like the Cefn Soup Kitchen.

Councillor Sonia Benbow-Jones said: “With the colder months ahead, it’s crucial that we come together as a community.

"The Cefn Soup Kitchen not only offers a hot meal but also provides a safe space where people can form friendships and find support. Don’t stay at home feeling isolated - come and join us for a bowl of soup and some companionship."

People can expect a hot bowl of soup, a refreshing drink and a bread roll, as well as a warm and inviting space to relax.

Donna Thornley, Cefn Community Council’s community agent  added: "It’s been wonderful to work closely with David to help make the Cefn Soup Kitchen a reality.

"From the start, I shared my vision of how we could make this more than just a place to get a meal, but a community hub where people feel truly supported. It’s inspiring to see that vision come to life, and I’m incredibly proud to have worked on this initiative, which is a vital lifeline for those in need."

Donna will also be present at the Cefn Soup Kitchen sessions to support anyone over the age of 50 with housing applications, Blue Badge applications, bus passes, reconnections with the community, and referrals to multiple organizations for additional assistance.
