A HOUSEBUILDER has responded to concerns over flooding which has left a path covered in clay at its development site in Wrexham.
The flooding occurred during Monday's heavy rainfall at Bellway Homes' Mountain View development site, situated at Gatewen Village in New Broughton.
Rain water mixed with clay ran down from the fields of the site on to a path close to an existing housing estate.
Lee Schofield, a resident, said flooding concerns have been raised with Bellway on a number of previous occasions.
"Rain/clay now over flows from Mountain View into Gatewen Village," he said. "Given we had a decent amount of rain it's caused flooding which is now spreading into the green areas of Gatewen Village, which we have to pay a yearly fee to maintain.
"The overflow of water was around 10 inches deep and will continue to rise with continuous rain. I've lived here for over a decade and we never had flooding here before the development was given planning permission.
"On the path, I walked on it yesterday and my trainers got absolutely ruined. There is a thick layer of clay which came up to my ankles, and I'm a six foot three bloke."

He added: "As the weather gets worse, I fear for homes closest to the development. And if I'd bought a home on the development site, I'd be worried."

A Bellway Homes spokesperson said: "North Wales has experienced significant rainfall over the past few days, which the Met Office has said is around 300 per cent of normal average rainfall for September.
“Bellway has robust drainage plans in place for its development at Gatewen Village, but are awaiting approval from regulatory authorities before these works will begin.
"Initial preparation work has begun on site prior to groundworks taking place and, following the recent heavy rainfall, we have identified an area of run off from on the site.
"We are arranging for our remediation contractor to return to site imminently to install silt fencing in the bottom corner where there has been run-off and we will be conducting a clean-up of the paths in that area.”
