A FLINTSHIRE MP has written to the health board over the impeding closure of a local mental health service.

Last month, The Leader reported that the Psychological Trauma Service, run out of the Quay Health Centre, in Connah's Quay, will be withdrawn from December of this year.

A user of the service said it has "saved my life" and that closing it would be "unforgivable".

Alyn & Deeside MP, Mark Tami, said he wrote to Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board on the matter, amid concerns raised with him.

"Last month constituents contacted me to tell me that the East Flintshire Psychological Trauma Service was being withdrawn," he said.

"I wrote to Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board enclosing testimonials from constituents detailing just how impactful the service has been on their lives, and urging the board to reverse its decision.

"I have since received a lengthy reply from the health board explaining the basis for its decision, some of which is confidential."

He added: "The board has assured me that all patients under the service will be offered appropriate future support, and that all its mental health services are now trauma informed.

"A new mental health service that will offer a consistent service for patients across Flintshire and Wrexham is being tested and I have asked to be kept updated on this.

"I will continue to keep an eye on the situation and would urge any constituents who don’t feel that they are getting adequate mental health service following the closure of the East Flintshire Psychological Trauma Service to contact me and I will do my best to help."
