A TEAM of volunteers helped rescue a group of five people including a young child, plus a dog, stranded in Flintshire. 

North East Wales Search and Rescue (NEWSAR) released details of the incident which took place last Sunday (September 22). 

A spokesperson said: "Last Sunday afternoon, we responded to a request from North Wales Police to help a group of five people and a dog stranded in Wepre Park, which included a young child. Sar loc phone find was used to locate them successfully.

"NEWSAR worked alongside North Wales Fire. Prior to our arrival, three members of the group and the dog managed to self-extract.

"Our team safely extracted the remaining adult and child from a steep, muddy embankment while NWFRS provided water safety cover.

"The group was safely reunited and transported home with their family members. It was definitely a muddy one, with a significant amount of equipment requiring cleaning, drying, and re-packing."

NEWSAR is a non-profit organisation that relies solely on donations made by members of the public. 

Its team of volunteers are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year responding to those in need throughout Flintshire, Denbighshire, Wrexham and parts of Conwy and Powys.
