A MAN caught in a 'cycle of offending' has found himself before the court again for stealing from shops.

Robert Bailey, who gave his current address as Rhostyllen Travelodge, appeared at Wrexham Magistrates Court on Monday.

The 33-year-old admitted that on August 19 and 22, he stole goods from Morrisons in Wrexham.

He further admitted stealing goods form Aldi in Wrexham on August 16.

Prosecutor Justin Espie briefly outlined the facts, in that on each occasion Bailey simply entered the stores in question and selected goods, before making no payment for them and leaving.

None of the stolen goods were recovered.

Mr Espie said the defendant had 129 previous offences on his criminal record - including 'multiple thefts from shop.'

Alun Williams, defending, conceded the Magistrates sentencing options were limited, given Bailey appeared in the dock having already been recalled to prison.

He told the court his client's position was 'regrettable,' explaining: "It's a cycle of offending where he gets a relatively short custodial sentence, gets released, commits more offences, is recalled and is then sentenced to custody again.

"On this occasion, he had been released and has made massive progress in my view.

"The difference is, he now has somewhere to stay.

"Often he's released with nowhere to go, and because of the predicament he finds himself in he reverts to type.

"But he's gone almost a month with no offences, which is commendable in the circumstances."

The Magistrates handed down a seven day custodial sentence on each of the three theft offences; to run concurrent to each other and the defendant's time on recall.

He must pay compensation of £43.29 to Aldi and £216.94 to Morrisons.
