CALLS have been made to introduce a crossing point on a "dangerous road" in Flintshire amid concerns for safety.

Residents in Flint Mountain are calling on Flintshire County Council to install a crossing point on the A5119, the main road linking Mold and Flint.

The road has a 40mph speed limit, which is often exceeded according to residents, who have launched a petition in a bid to put a crossing in place.

Concerns have been raised about school children having to cross the busy road, as well as elderly residents crossing the road in order to get the bus.

One resident said: "This is a very busy road with heavy traffic and really poor visibility due to the road bend at this location.

"Many of the parents are concerned for the safety of the young children expected to cross this dangerous road.

"On the journey from Mold Alun to Flint Mountain, other school pupils are dropped off at Sychdyn, where there is a 20mph speed limit with a speed camera and a pedestrian crossing. In Northop, again a 20 mph speed limit is in place and a pedestrian crossing.

"In both Northop and Sychdyn, there are safe means for school pupils to cross the road and return home safely. The Flint Mountain children have no way of safely crossing the road.

"The speed limit on the road is 40mph and often cars exceed this speed limit. This is extremely unsafe road for school children and residents to cross.

"Many elderly residents that are unable to drive and have to cross this road to catch the bus to Flint. When residents cross the road, there is an extremely narrow footpath with overgrown brushes on the path and weeds on the pavement. Elderly pedestrians have to walk on the busy main road to reach the bus stop and putting their lives in danger.

"The A4119 road is an extremely dangerous road."
