A MAN has been sentenced after bombarding his ex-girlfriend with unwanted messages.

Samuel Dodd, of Milford Street in Mold appeared at Wrexham Magistrates Court for sentence on Wednesday afternoon via video link from HMP Berwyn.

The 26-year-old had previously pleaded guilty to assault and stalking.

Justin Espie, prosecuting, told the court that the victim in both offences was Dodd's ex-girlfriend Abbie Louise Williams.

According to the charges, the assault took place between June and July this year, and the stalking occurred from August 2 and 11.

Mr Espie told the court the offences came to light because the victim had contacted police and advised Dodd had harassed her after their relationship ended.

His conduct included a high number of calls and messages to the victim - and he resorted to using other accounts when she blocked him.

Simon Simmons, defending, told the court: "Mr Dodd pleaded guilty at the first opportunity but unfortunately he had the outstanding Crown Court matters awaiting sentence.

"I've spoken to the complainant in the past - they had been together and things seemed to be good.

"They had two dogs together."

Mr Simmons said many of his client's messages had related to Dodd enquiring about seeing their dogs.

He said the defendant had also sought answers about the reason for the relationship ending.

The messages were not threatening in nature, he said, adding: "He's mature enough to know the situation he's in.

"He goes through the criminal justice system with minimal fuss.

"I would suggest he is not perfect; he clearly has some emotional issues and is immature in some aspects."

The Magistrates handed down an overall custodial sentence of eight weeks on each offence, to run concurrent to each other - and concurrent to his ongoing jail term.

A two year restraining order was imposed to protect Ms Williams and the defendant must pay £85 costs, as well as a £154 victim surcharge.
