A MUM has thanked a stranger who helped pay for her son's food and drink at Wrexham's home ground which has now - still unbeknown to some - become a cashless venue.

The Leader has recently reported on the news that Wrexham AFC has banned the use of cash at the STok Cae Ras.

That has left some fans frustrated, while some other supporters are still unaware of the change.

One of those was Vicky Edwards, whose son Oliver had been queuing up for a pie and a drink at half time during Saturday's (September 21) 2-1 win over Crawley Town.

After queuing for a while, he was told it was 'card only' and only had cash in his possession.

Luckily, a fellow supporter - an unknown man with what was believed to be an 'American accent' - stepped in to help out.

Posting on the Wrexham AFC Fans Chat Facebook group, Vicky thanked the stranger, in the hope of also possibly finding out who he is.

She said: "On Saturday at the match in the temporary stand my son waited a while for a half time pie and a drink, after he ordered he was told card only.

"A little disappointed after his wait, and the second half had started, a lovely gentleman behind him paid for his pie and drink. I don’t know if this gentleman is on here as my son thinks he had an American accent. But if you are thank you very much you made his day, very kind of you."

Speaking to the Leader, Vicky added: "I just wanted to show my appreciation with the post, unfortunately this (cashless venues) is just the way the world is going and it's lesson learnt on my behalf.

"My son is a massive Wrexham fan and loves speaking with the players every opportunity he gets, they really are so friendly with him and it's never a problem getting a photograph or a signature.

"I took him to his first game at Wembley in 2022, that is when he got the buzz for it and rarely misses a game now whether it’s me or his dad or all three that goes with him.

"He has also been lucky enough to be a mascot at the Notts county home game last year and we won a competition which also saw him fly to Sutton with the team along with his dad."

Wrexham AFC has said that the change to being a cashless venue was made in order to 'improve speed of service' at the STok Cae Ras.

The club has added that the club shop however will still accept both card and cash payments.
