DEESIDE has no shortage of places to get food day or night.
So when a new cafe, sandwich shop, or takeaway opens, the question remains - what is it adding to the choices on offer?
Butty-licious certainly stands out on Shotton's High Street with its bright pink, blue and yellow frontage reminiscent of a neon cupcake.
As for the question of whether it adds something new? For me, the answer is yes.
Freshly made sandwiches, baked potatoes, salads and more are on the menu.
I opted for a sandwich, a lunchtime option for many people working or shopping in the town centre.
There were a choice of prepared fillings as well as the more traditional sliced meats and cheese.
I went for sticky maple chicken with salad on a white bap.
There was plenty of choice of salad items, and I added peppers to the traditional lettuce, cucumber and tomato.
The sandwich was great, generously loaded with fillings and very reasonably priced.
The serving staff were very friendly, and treated many of the returning customers as friends.
I think this personal touch will be part of the attraction to those looking to buy lunch regularly.
Another bonus, is the versatility of the menu.
Boards in the shop offer the option to build your own breakfast or sandwich.
This means people with particular preferences are sure not to be disappointed, while allowing returning customers to mix it up on occasion.
TASTE TESTS
- Fresh and tasty breakfast awaits to the rear of farm shop
- Ristorante Bollicini - Cool vibe, great value, authentically Italian
Earlier in the week I had a Butty-licious cooked breakfast delivered to my home.
My first impression was that it was plentiful - three bacon rashes and sausages where other equivalent breakfasts would come with two.
Similarly, there were two fried eggs and two slices of black pudding.
And the beans, which arrived in a tub which is always preferred when having a breakfast delivered, was double - if not more - than I have had from other cafes.
Any criticism I would have would be purely down to the food being delivered. Hash browns, toast, and eggs, in particular, do not travel as well as other items.
That's not to say it wasn't good. It was.
I am sure that ordering in person in the cafe would result in a brekkie that was even better, especially as I'm confident the staff would be receptive to preparing things like eggs and bacon to the customer's specifications.
Consider me a fan of Butty-licious, I will definitely be returning.
