A SERIOUS crash involving a minibus in Flintshire was carrying school children, the council has confirmed. 

The incident occurred on the A5119 Northop Road in Flint Mountain on Tuesday.

Four people were taken to hospital - including one person who was airlifted to Stoke with serious injuries

Flintshire Council has confirmed the incident involved one of its school transport services for Ysgol Pen Coch - a special school in Flint. 

Katie Wilby, chief officer for Streetscene and transportation, said: “A serious road traffic collision took place on the A5119, Flint Mountain, involving one of Flintshire County Council’s school transport services.

"Council staff are in contact with the Ysgol Pen Coch and providing support to those who were injured.

"We are working with North Wales Police and the transport operator to understand the circumstances surrounding this incident.”

North Wales Police said they were called to a single-vehicle collision shortly before 12.20pm on Tuesday (September 17), adding: "Emergency services attended the scene near the Coach and Horses on Northop Road, Flint Mountain, where a woman was airlifted to Stoke Hospital with serious injuries."

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We sent an operations manager, three emergency ambulances, two Cymru High Acuity Response Unit paramedics and an advanced paramedic practitioner to the scene.

"Advanced critical care support was delivered by the Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service in a Wales Air Ambulance charity helicopter. Four patients were taken to hospital.”
