This year's Mold Food and Drink Festival has been dubbed an "absolute success" by organisers.

Upwards of 5,000 people have flocked to the town for the event, which began on Friday and continues today (Sunday).

Mold Food and Drink Festival chairman Gareth Williams said the event was "bouncing" during Friday's music line up - in particular during the Queen tribute night.

Speaking of Saturday's turnout alone, he added: "We probably had between 4,500 and 5,000 people on site.

"The weather picked up and it was absolutely chocker.

"Saturdays always work for us - everyone was really happy."

Mr Williams said Sunday's activities have so far included a 9-11's cook off with a £1,000 prize; which was won by Ysgol Maes Garmon.

"That £1,000 will go to the school's food tech department," Mr Williams said.

"And also as part of that prize, they got a day's work experience at Carden Park

"Two other schools won a runner-up prize of £500.

"What we're also doing today is that from 12noon, we have local independent pubs doing pop-ups, promoting their business and selling their wares.

"We've also supported market traders, giving them space to promote their business.

"It's been an absolute success."
