AN event is set to shed light on a Flintshire community.

The residents of Buckley are invited to come together for a fun-filled evening at the Light Up Our Town lantern parade next month.

The event will start at Refurbs Repair and Reuse centre, on Brunswick Road, and promises to be a celebration of creativity and community spirit, and promoting sustainable practices.

As part of Refurbs Buckley's commitment to engaging the community, they are offering a limited number of free lantern-making workshops on a first come first serve basis.

Lanterns for the parade are to be made from recycled and sustainable materials. These workshops are available to interested community groups and will provide all necessary materials and guidance to create beautiful lanterns to take part in the parade. Refurbs Repair and Reuse centre will also be hosting two lantern-making workshops, taking place on Saturday, October 26 and Monday, October 28.

On the Saturday people can meet and join resident artist Zoe Matthews in making the large signature lanterns.

Amanda Barr, events lead for the lantern parade, said: "It is fantastic to be able to bring this new and exciting event to Buckley town, celebrating the local community, culture and heritage and promoting a message of sustainability for future generations. We hope with the support of the local community and businesses the event will be a great success."

The event is funded by UK Government Share Prosperity Fund and Flintshire County Council but to make this event a true success, Refurbs welcome and need additional support through sponsorship. Local businesses and groups have the unique opportunity to sponsor one of the larger artist-made lanterns, which will be a central highlight of the parade. Refurbs also thank the Blakemore Fund, SPAR, Brunswick Road for supporting the lantern-making workshops.
