A TEENAGER has been warned her driving licence will be revoked after police caught her at the wheel without insurance.

Leah Stewart, of Maple Avenue in Oswestry, appeared at Wrexham Magistrates Court on Friday.

The 19-year-old admitted that on March 1 this year in Wrexham, she used a Vauxhall motor vehicle without insurance.

Brian Robinson, prosecuting, told the court that just after 10.10pm on the day in question, police in Park Avenue noticed Stewart driving the silver Vauxhall Astra.

The only person insured on the vehicle was a male - so they stopped her and reported the offence.

Representing herself at the hearing, Stewart confirmed she agreed with the prosecution facts.

She told the court she was under the impression when she got behind the wheel that because she had a full licence, she could drive the vehicle.

Stewart added she is currently on benefits, and that that she passed her driving test less than two years ago.

Because of the amount of time she has held her licence, the court heard, the inevitable penalty points she was to receive would be followed by the DVLA revoking her full licence and putting her back to a provisional one.

The Magistrates handed down a £120 fine for the offence and ordered Stewart to pay a £48 victim surcharge, as well as £110 costs.

She received six points on her licence.
