PLANS ARE in place for Flintshire County Council to 'vacate' its current headquarters next year, it has been confirmed.

The future of County Hall in Mold has been under discussion for a number of years and has been discussed within the council among ideas to cut costs.

It was partially demolished during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, with staff moved to other buildings on Raikes Lane and re-located across other offices at County Hall, as well as another base in Flint and Ty Dewi Sant in Ewloe.

Back then, it was reported that the facility had become too expensive to run for the authority, with annual operating costs of £1.2m and estimated maintenance costs for the next 25 years predicted to be £26m.

Now, Flintshire Council has confirmed that it plans to wave goodbye to its traditional headquarters for good by February of next year.

A council spokesperson said that staff will be re-located to Ty Dewi Sant in Ewloe in a move which could be done and dusted by February 2025.

They said: “The future of County Hall has been under discussion for quite some time and has featured regularly in council communications around budget savings and office rationalisation.

"Since its partial demolition in 2020, infrastructure planning has been underway, with the aim of vacating the remaining two phases and ultimately progressing to full demolition.

“It is now the Council’s plan to vacate County Hall by February 2025 with employees relocating to Ty Dewi Sant Ewloe.

"It is however too early to comment on or confirm any detailed plans in relation to the demolition of the remaining Phases I and II.

“Flintshire, along with every other council in the UK, continues to face significant financial pressure and in the context of a very difficult budget position for 2025/26 and beyond, it is quite simply no longer financially viable to retain County Hall and all the costs associated with it.”
