STAG DO bookings in Wrexham are on the rise thanks to the documentary that's all about the community and it's football club.

The hit DisneyPlus series ‘Welcome To Wrexham’, highlights the takeover and revitalisation of Wrexham AFC and the city itself, under the ownership of Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

And, as well as bringing success on the pitch via back-to-back promotions so far, the takeover has sparked a significant rise in stag weekend tourism for Wrexham.

Since it’s premiere, ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ has captivated audiences with its heart-warming portrayal of the city and its beloved football club.

The series not only highlights the excitement of Wrexham AFC’s journey from non-league football to the top half of League One, but also paints a vibrant picture of Wrexham itself, attracting a surge of interest from viewers globally.

Tourism data released recently shows that the city saw a 20% year-on-year growth in visitor spend in 2023, as well as a huge growth of 82% over the past ten years.

The tourism data from the Welsh Government reveals that the number of visitors to Wrexham grew by 6.6% and the number of day visitors grew by 8.1%.

But the growth in tourism isn’t just limited to football fanatics and holiday makers, the show has helped to put Wrexham on the map for stag groups from all across Europe.

According to The Stag Company, requests for stag weekends to Wrexham has grown by 113% so far in the first six months of 2024.

That’s quite a jump, considering 2023 itself saw an 80% jump on 2022.

In fact, compared to 10 years ago, when The Stag Company only gained one quote in the entire year for Wrexham, that highlights an incredible 7,600% growth in stag do quotes in the past decade.

Tom Bourlet, the Head of Marketing for The Stag Company, said: "We haven’t been prepared for this growth in stag weekends to Wrexham, as we don’t currently offer the location as a destination, but we’re desperately trying to agree contracts with partners in the area so we can launch Wrexham as a destination in November.

“The impact of ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ has been phenomenal. We have been trying to redirect these requests to book people in other Welsh areas such as Cardiff or Snowdonia, or the not-too-distant Liverpool."

So what can stag parties expect if visiting Wrexham for a big weekend away?

A range of activities are available in the area, from the stag-classic paintballing and quad biking, while some new activities are set to be launched such as bubble football and footdarts.

There will also be great options for fans of the Welcome to Wrexham show, such as a visit to the Turf Pub or the Reds' neighbouring STok Cae Ras football stadium.
