A MAN has received a custodial sentence for driving whilst banned and without insurance.

Jordan Swaine, currently an inmate at HMP Berwyn, appeared at Wrexham Magistrates Court on Monday.

The 32-year-old admitted that on July 15 this year, he drove an Audi motor vehicle on the A483 at Ruabon whilst banned from holding or obtaining a licence.

He further admitted that he drove on that occasion with no insurance.

Prosecutor Shane Maddocks told the court that on the day in question, police spotted the white Audi vehicle being driven towards Ruabon and stopped it.

Swaine was in the driver's seat, and checks confirmed he'd been banned.

The court heard he had 18 previous convictions for 31 offences and was jailed in August for six years for a dissimilar offence.

Alun Williams, defending, told the court: "He and his partner had been to Broughton Retail Park.

"On the way back, she felt unwell and he stupidly took over.

"He has had issues with drugs int he past, but he got over those."

Mr Williams said his client hopes to use his time in custody to undertake training opportunities.

He asked the court to impose an immediate custodial sentence which would not impact on Swaine's 2027 release date.

The Magistrates imposed a 12 week immediate sentence, to run concurrent to Swaine's ongoing jail term.

His current 19 month ban was extended by an additional 12 months.
