THE COST of nine daily essentials has dropped since the end of last year.
In February 2022, I went to Tesco and bought nine daily household items including bread, butter, cheese and eggs to see how much it cost me.
Since then, I have been back and bought the same items on a number of occasions, to compare how the prices have changed amid the cost of living crisis.
February 2022: £7.83.
April 2022: £9.24.
October 2022: 10.49.
June 2023: £13.23.
November 2023: £14.01
Last week, I headed back to Tesco to see how much the prices had changed since November, when at over £14, was almost double from the first time.
The cost of each item was:
Two pints of milk: November 2023 - £1.20, September 2024 - £1.20. No increase.
Warburtons 50/50 loaf: November 2023 - £1.35, September 2024 - £1.20. No increase.
Six eggs: November 2023 - £1.85, September 2024 - £1.85. No increase.
Butter: November 2023 - £2.09, September 2024 - £2.09. No increase.
Cheese: November 2023 - £2.69, September 2024 - £2.49. A decrease of 20p.
Baked Beans: November 2023 - £1, September 2024 - £1. No increase.
Penne pasta: November 2023 - £1.39, September 2024 - £1.29. A decrease of 10p
Toilet roll: November 2023 - £1.79, September 2024 - £1.69. A decrease of 10p
Washing up liquid: November 2023 - £0.65, September 2024 - £0.65. No increase.
Total: November 2023 - £14.01, September 2024 - £13.57 A decrease of 40p.

Despite it not being a huge drop in price, it's pleasing to see that there has been no more increase.
Seeing the cost of the items rise by over £6 in the space of 20 months was very concerning as it was only nine items and if that equated to a full shop, the increase would have been huge.
Hopefully, we will slowly start to see the cost of items continuing to drop, which in turn will lower the demand at foodbanks and community cupboards across Wrexham and Flintshire.
