A WREXHAM-based charity has called on Flintshire County Council to remove the barriers along the Welsh Coastal Path.
Together Creating Communities (TCC), a community organising charity based in Wrexham, is urgently calling for the removal of all barriers path, which is managed by the local authority.
TCC, which supports 40 member groups in tackling social justice issues in north east Wales, is collaborating with a host of other charities and organisations in a bid to improve accessibility on the path.
The coalition is actively listening to people with lived experiences to understand the impact of barriers on the coastal path within Flintshire.
For a number of years, anti-motorcycle barriers of various types have been used across some of Flintshire’s most popular recreational and active travel routes.
TCC say the barriers prevent legitimate users, including disabled people, mobility scooters, larger cycles, and double prams, from accessing areas such as the Wales Coast Path and National Cycle Routes.
Concerns have previously been raised about the illegal use of motorcycles on the path, viewing barriers and restricted access as an acceptable compromise.

However, TCC and its partners believe it is unacceptable to prevent disabled people from accessing paths and routes available to others purely to prevent potential anti-social behaviour.
A TCC spokesperson said: “It is now time to remove all of Flintshire’s access barriers.
“We urge Flintshire Council to consider the needs of all legitimate users and to take immediate action to ensure the Wales Coastal Path is accessible to everyone.”
A Flintshire Council spokesperson said: “Flintshire County Council recognises the limitations of the existing cycle barriers and are actively in the process of undertaking a detailed review, while giving careful consideration to the needs and safety of all users.”
