A COUNCILLOR is "looking forward" to a smoother journey on the "worst road in Wrexham" as resurfacing work is set to get underway today (September 6)

Plaid Cymru councilllor Annette Davies has spoken of her excitement that Wrexham Council is to resurface large parts of the Summerhill Road in Gwersyllt and Summerhill.

It was announced last month that resurfacing work would take place after Cllr Davies launched a petition calling for the resurfacing of the road.

Numerous patching's had made the road surface "dangerous" for road users and a number of people that signed the petition said they avoided the road because it was so uneven.

It led to the road being dubbed the "worst road in Wrexham", but that isn't set to be the case for much longer, with work set to start on the road today (September 6).

Part of the road near Little Mountain has already been redone, with the "worst section" near Lex Football Club getting underway today.

Cllr Davies, whose petition calling for the resurfacing of Summerhill Road gained 1,100 signatures in just 10 days, said: "The first section of road was resurfaced by Little Mountain and residents are happy that the work there has been done.

"The worst section of the road, by the Lex football ground, is being done this week and I'm hopeful that we'll see a real difference to journeys from now on.

"The main concern has always been about safety - especially for cyclists and motorcyclists trying to dodge the potholes. But I'm also looking forward to a smoother journey on the bus going into town!"
