A WREXHAM Councillor has embraced a "drastic" new look in a bid to raise money for charity.

Cllr Jon Jolley of the Smithfield Ward is raising funds for Nightingale House in Wrexham, a charity close to his own heart after they cared for his grandad many years ago.

As part of his efforts to raise money, Jon had his dyed blue by the team at New Wave on Monday (September 2).

The blue hair will last for two weeks, before he braves the shave, in a bid to boost the fundraising total.

A JustGiving page has been set up, with just short of £500 raised so far. You can visit the fundraising page by clicking here.

Jon said: "I was hoping to get a story out so that more people in Wrexham are prepared for my new drastic look.

"I wanted to use my limited platform to raise some more money for charity, and thought what better way than to raise it for an organisation that has looked after both my friends and family during some of their most trying times.

"Nightingale House Hospice have been providing incredible care for the people of Wrexham for almost 30 years. I drew a list up of local charities I would like to support and they were top of the list.

"It's one of the best local charities, many years ago they took care of my grandad and in more recent years they have supported my friends and relatives of friends through some of their hardest times.

"There is no real target for the amount to be raised. I know how tough it is for people at the moment, but anything people are willing to give, they know it's going to a worthwhile charity."
